American Ambers

Exploring the Depth of American Amber

As brewers, we’re always chasing balance - how to bring malt, hops, and process together in a way that feels both familiar and just a little unexpected. American Amber is one of those styles that rewards that pursuit. Known for its deep copper colour, smooth malt body, and subtle yet expressive hop character, it provides a canvas rich with potential. With Amberillo, we decided to lean into that tradition while adding our own bold twist: a touch of rye.

At its core, American Amber is defined by a malt-forward profile. Caramel and toasted malts give the style its signature warmth—notes of toffee, biscuit, and gentle sweetness that create a sturdy backbone. For Amberillo, we build that foundation carefully, aiming for a rounded mouthfeel that supports but never overwhelms the hops.

Amarillo hops play the starring role on the aromatics side. Known for their bright citrus and soft floral qualities, Amarillo bridges the gap between classic American hop character and modern nuance. Late additions and dry hopping help us preserve those oils, giving the beer an uplifting top note of orange zest and spring flowers.

Then comes the rye. Used sparingly, rye adds a subtle spice—a peppery, slightly earthy edge that cuts through sweetness and sharpens the beer’s overall profile. In winter, when palates crave depth and comfort, that combination of warming malt, lively hop expression, and crisp rye spice comes together beautifully. It gives the beer richness without heaviness and brightness without sharpness.
