Matcha? Matcha!
Matcha is a finely ground Japanese green tea made from specially grown and shaded tea leaves, traditionally whisked into hot water. It’s instantly recognisable for its bright green colour and has a fresh, earthy taste with a gentle bitterness and a slightly savoury edge.
These days, matcha is popping up everywhere in the UK, from lattes and desserts to cocktails and, now, beer. And we thought, why not? Beer and matcha. 🍵🍺
We wanted to take two very different drinks and see what happened when they met in the same glass. The result is our matcha beer, bringing the familiar, refreshing character of beer together with the earthy, slightly bitter flavour of matcha.
It might sound like an odd combination at first, but that’s part of the fun. Beer already has its own mix of bitterness, sweetness and refreshing fizz, while matcha brings a whole different kind of flavour. Put the two together and you get something that’s familiar enough to enjoy, but different enough to make you take another sip.
Matcha has already made its way firmly into our cafés and kitchens, so we wanted to see what it could do in a pint.
Matcha might have started out in the tea bowl, but we reckon it deserves a place at the bar too.
